I love this milk blend, made without the date, but it didn’t keep a froth on first try, which isn’t that important to me. Swoon! I’m so proud of myself, I have never made anything like this before. Yes! It’s minimum amount of water is 5 cups to 1 cup of other material (almonds/oats/cashews/coconut) which of course would make an unacceptably watered down version of this recipe. I have a Idavee nut-milk maker and so I used the strainer/pitcher from that and got 3 cups worth of “milk”. Last badge was good but it didn’t froth. Next time, would you mind leaving a rating with your review? I made the milk several times. But please can you make something that is ok for tea? Also, you can always reduce the amount of coconut and slightly increase the amount of cashew and oat! But I am very pleased that its not slimy and seems to stay incorporated pretty well which were my biggest concerns. If making in an almond cow, would you just put all ingredients into the basket? Xo. Or do the flakes’ oil not get extracted because hot water isn’t used? It will spoil if left out. I’d think so, yes! This is perfect. I used finely shredded unsweetened coconut (again, what I had on hand) and it tastes very good to me/I didn’t have a problem with straining. Do you have any tips to avoid this? You shouldnt soak the oats at all, makes it slimy. You can always dilute with 1 more cup of water for easier frothing. Do you have any recipes for use of the cashew/coconut/oatmeal solids after straining? I still have not found a mix that produces enough micro-foam for latte art. so overall, very cost effective. Hi Lynne, we aren’t familiar with that blender so we don’t have any tips on it. I made this milk today and REALLY enjoyed it! I can’t wait to make this and try it with my daily matcha! I added a ton more water and got enough through the nut milk bag to make one matcha latte this morning but threw the rest out. It steams beautifully (the sound is going to be screechy and scary at first, but you can build microfoam. I am totally going to try this! After your comment I’m a bit cautious – I might try a tensy little bit first. I think that I may even use a few more cashews next time, as the density they lend if wonderful. :). Did you use one tablespoon or teaspoon of coconut oil? xo. I will say this froths well (at least in my experience) because of the higher fat content. Olive oil is different than rapeseed oil. My only question is why do you have to rinse the nuts after soaking? All homemade oat milks I’ve made have turned slimy or thickened up like oatmeal when heated. A little sediment is normal. Do you make a difference and why to added rapeseed oil compared to the oil the cashews naturally contain? It can be used similarly. Hi Anna, Cashews and coconut are whole food sources, meaning they are less processed. Are we talking large quantities of oil? Perhaps try plunging your coffee earlier to QC the taste of that, first. Yes I did use nut milk bag and high speed blender. This recipe should froth really nicely! milks, and the minimum amount of water is ~4.5c. Excellent! I have just one question, does it heat well (like Oatly batista)? But I can say that most dairy-free milks have a little separation when added to other liquids. This is a great post as I hadnt notice that there was raspseed oil in the milk just that oat milk was now tasting a lot better than in the past. I loved the taste and being able to avoid all those tetra packs but still had the problem I’ve had with other home made mylks – it separated in tea and coffee. Although it seems fine, it actually lets through a lot more sediment than say a nut milk bag or clean t-shirt would. We assume your blender and nut milk bag are well rinsed? This looks great! Was totally expecting less frothyness, but not none. First time making nut milk at home, I tried the recipe exactly as written in my brand new Vitamix! It’s not as ideal as rolled oats but technically it should work! xo. I usually really dislike the taste of any nut or oat milks by themselves, but this is actually quite nice alone. I guess you have to shake the whole batch at once?
